Edward Zwick Cheating Michael Eddy by Stealing The Idea for “The Last Samurai”?
Screenwriter Michael Alan Eddy has sued the WGA West and the producers of “The Last Samurai” over the guild’s refusal to arbitrate his claim that he was cheated out of a writing credit on the Tom Cruise film.
WGA Refusal To Hold Credit Arbitration Hearing
Eddy took the step Monday, filing a complaint in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles that alleged fraud and conspiracy to cheat, breach of the guild’s duty to properly represent him as a member and breach of the WGA’s minimum basic agreement. He specifically accused the WGA staff of intimidating him in order to allow such cheating on behalf of credited writer/producers, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
Dispute centers on the WGA’s refusal to hold a credit arbitration hearing, which led to the assignment of writing credits on the “The Last Samurai” to John Logan, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
Eddy: Edward Zwick Cheating Me Out Of Credit
Edward Zwick and Marshal Herskovitz are also producers on the film, for which Zwick is also the director. “I feel wronged. I have been cheated by Edward Zwick and Marshal Herskovitz, and I’m not going to run away with my tail between my legs. This kind of cheating has become all to commonplace in our profession. Such big shots as Edward Zwick and Marshal Herskovitz should not be allowed to get away with cheating.”
